How to Obtain Work Permits for Foreigners in Egypt
Procedures for Obtaining Work Permits for Foreigners for the First Time
The foreigner wishing to obtain a work permit in the country must submit the following documents:
To the Foreign Workers Licensing Office at the relevant Directorate of Manpower.
Foreign Workers Licensing Office at the General Petroleum Authority.
Or the Foreign Workers Licensing Office at the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones.
The request will be followed up by the relevant Directorate of Manpower.
Foreign Workers Licensing Department at the Ministry.
What is the duration required to obtain a work permit for foreigners? It takes 48 hours from the date of submitting a complete application with all the required documents.
The prescribed fees:
1000 EGP for all foreigners in general.
The following categories are exempt from fees: (Greek nationals, Palestinian nationals, Sudanese nationals working in the private sector only, and those exempted under explicit or implicit provisions in international agreements to which the Arab Republic of Egypt is a party.)
Cases for Revoking Foreign Work Permits
A foreigner's work permit will be revoked in the following cases:
- If convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that harms honor, integrity, or public morals, or in cases that affect national security.
What is the duration of a foreign work permit ?
The validity period of the work permit is one year or less. It may also be issued for a longer duration upon payment of the required fee for the desired period.
As for the procedures for renewing a foreign work permit:
The foreigner wishing to renew their work permit must submit the renewal application at least one month before its expiration, or within a maximum of 14 days from the permit's expiration date. The following documents must be provided:
Required Documents for Renewing a Foreign Work Permit:
The previously issued foreign work permit card.
A postal money order for the required fees, as follows:
In the name of the Director of the relevant Directorate of Manpower.
In the name of the Head of the Central Administration for the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Manpower.
Work permits for foreigners at the General Authority for Investment and the General Petroleum Authority.
Proof that the work permit fee has been paid in cash or transferred through one of the commercial public sector banks.
Approval from the entity that previously authorized the foreigner's employment is required.
A report on the progress of the Egyptian assistant must be submitted in the case of employing foreign experts or technicians.
The renewal of the foreign work permit will be issued on the same day of submission, except in cases where the matter needs to be referred to the Foreign Work Permit Licensing Department at the Ministry.
Regarding the fees for renewing a foreign work permit:
100 EGP for all foreigners in general.
50 EGP for nationals of Arab countries, according to Decision No. 135 of 1996.
In addition to 4.100 EGP for the specific tax and stamp duties.
Notes
In the case of renewal after the fifth year of the permit, the matter must be referred to the Head of the Central Administration for Employment Regulation. However, the following are exempt from this:
Foreign workers in the oil industry
Foreign workers in investment projects
Foreign workers in national projects
Previously required documents in one copy
The license remains valid for two weeks after its expiration date; otherwise, the conditions for obtaining a new license will apply.
Regarding the procedures for changing a foreign worker's place of employment or profession in a foreign work permit
The foreign worker who changes their place of employment or profession must notify the competent administrative authority by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt within one week of the change, attaching the approval of the new employer

Changing the profession within the same establishment
Changing the place of work within the branches of the same establishment

Regarding the procedure for issuing a replacement for a lost or damaged foreign work permit
It is necessary to submit a police report for the lost permit or damaged card along with the (1) work permit application form.
It can be obtained on the same day after completing the required documents.

Appeal against the refusal to obtain a foreign work permit.
It is done by submitting a request addressed to the Director of the Foreign Work Permit Department at the Ministry
Stating the reasons for the appeal, supported by new documents
The appeal will be responded to within 15 days from the date of submission, and it will be free of charge
The authority to which the appeal is submitted is the Foreign Work Permit Department
The appeal must be submitted within one month from the date of rejection.
